Best ROG Ally Accessories

The ROG Ally is a powerful handheld out of the box. The right accessories make it faster to charge, easier to carry, better for couch gaming, and more useful as a desktop replacement. Here are the accessories worth buying.

Essential ROG Ally Accessories

1. Best Carrying Case: JSAUX Carrying Case

The JSAUX carrying case fits the ROG Ally precisely, with a hard outer shell and internal mesh pockets for cables, a charger, and microSD cards. The zipper is sturdy and the foam inserts protect the screen during bag throws.

2. Best Dock: ASUS ROG 65W Charger Dock

The official ASUS ROG charger dock combines 65W USB-C charging, a full-size HDMI 2.0 port, two USB-A 3.2 ports, and a USB-C data port into one small hub. Plug it into your TV and the Ally becomes a console replacement for living room gaming.

For more options, see our full docking station guide, many Steam Deck docks work with the ROG Ally too.

3. Best MicroSD Card: Samsung Pro Plus 512GB

The ROG Ally’s internal SSD is fast, but 512GB fills up quickly with modern games. A high-speed microSD card expands your library without the hassle of SSD swapping. The Samsung Pro Plus 512GB hits A2 read speeds and handles game installs without stuttering.

4. Best Power Bank: Baseus 65W Power Bank

The ROG Ally X’s 80Wh battery lasts 2,4 hours depending on what you’re playing. For flights and long travel days, a 65W power bank keeps you topped up. The Baseus 65W 20,000mAh charges the Ally at full speed via USB-C PD and still fits in a carry-on bag.

5. Best Screen Protector: amFilm Glass Screen Protector

The ROG Ally’s 7-inch display is unprotected glass out of the box. A tempered glass screen protector adds scratch resistance and smudge coating without reducing touch sensitivity or display clarity. The amFilm protector cuts precisely for the Ally and installs bubble-free with the included alignment frame.

6. Best Thumb Grips: BRHE Analog Thumb Grips

The stock thumbsticks on the ROG Ally are decent, but the caps can get slippery during long sessions. Silicone thumb grips add texture and a slight concave surface that improves precision aiming. BRHE makes Ally-specific grips that fit without interfering with the bumpers.

7. Best Cooling Fan: ASUS ROG Cooling Kit

Running the Ally X at 25W TDP for extended gaming sessions causes sustained heat. A clip-on cooling fan pulls heat away from the back vents and reduces fan noise during intensive play. The ASUS ROG cooling accessory is designed for the Ally’s exact vent layout and attaches magnetically.

Optional Upgrades

SSD Upgrade

The ROG Ally uses a standard M.2 2230 SSD, which means you can swap it for a larger drive. The WD Black SN770M 1TB or 2TB is the recommended upgrade, it fits the 2230 form factor and delivers Gen 4 speeds. See our SSD upgrade guide for the step-by-step process (the Ally and Steam Deck use similar procedures).

Bluetooth Controller for TV Mode

When docked to a TV, the Ally’s built-in controls are awkward from the couch. A wireless controller, Xbox Series controller, DualSense, or 8BitDo Ultimate, pairs instantly via Bluetooth and gives you proper controller ergonomics for the living room.

What You Don’t Need

Skip third-party charging cables that claim 65W but throttle under load, the official 65W USB-C cable that ships with the Ally X works fine, and any certified Anker or Belkin USB-C cable at 65W+ handles the job. Skip multi-port hubs over $60, the basic USB-C docking station from JSAUX or Anker does the same job for less. And skip dedicated grips or grip cases that claim to add controller-style hand holds, they add bulk without meaningfully improving ergonomics.
